Walk a Mile in My Shoes

Today I met a man; not just any man.
He walked with a slight limp, why not
he's in his 80's. But, he had a swag &
a dry sense of humor, and exuded
self-confidence. He stood upright and I offered my hand with a handshake, I received in return a real man sized handshake. Lieutenant Leroy Bowman is a Man among Men.  I complemented him
on his great sense of humor. We were in a
shoe repair, not a place you'd expect to
meet one of the last living, great
Tuskegee Airmen, Lt. Col. Leroy Bowman.
There are a few of them left from the
original 1,000 + black pilots & service men. They lead fighting forces in and out of the war zone without weapons and without firing a shot while bringing them home safely without losing a single comrade.

This man assured me that he would come and speak to our youth and community and that he “will be there before the Moon goes down.”  Well, Lieutenant Leroy Bowman one of the last survivors has kept his promise and will tentatively grace us with his presence at the National Guard Armory in Kingstree, SC on September 26, 2009.  Further information to follow concerning the honoring this great living Legion.

Each Wednesday, we minister in the correctional Institutions of South Carolina.
